Now, a little description of the personal symbolism this has. (You don't have to read this. LOL.)
The color, as some may know, is the color for the Lymphedema ribbon and a butterfly is the symbol for Lymphedema. The kanji for strength (upper right wing) is for how I've been strengthened by my Lymphedema and other pains and how I hope to remain strong in the future. The kanji for hope (upper left wing) is for my hope for a brighter future (it's already looking up ) and hope for a possible cure. The hearts (there was originally only going to be one but I adore that he added more) were my mother's idea and they are supposed to symbolize the love and support I receive from those around me (mostly from my mother, who is amazing in her ability to raise a disabled child from the ripe age of 17 on) and my compassion and love for others who show me no such kindness in return. Again, my mother's idea. LOL. The rips and holes in the wings symbolize everything I've been through in my short life.
